The Difference
What is the difference between a head spa and a scalp treatment?
The difference is what the time is for. A head spa is built for relaxation and a clean, refreshed scalp; a scalp treatment is built around one concern you want looked after. Both take place in the same private room, and both are cosmetic care.
GK Hair Haven's menu lists them as two categories: 3 head spas, from the 60-minute Classic Head Spa to the 100-minute Luxury Sleep Head Spa and 4 scalp and hair treatments of 80 to 100 minutes, each named for what it focuses on.
| Head spa | Scalp treatment | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Relaxation and a clean, refreshed scalp | One concern: oil, flakes, dryness or thinning-looking hair |
| Length | 60 to 100 minutes | 80 to 100 minutes |
| Price | $119 to $189 | $159 to $209 |
| Scalp analysis | Not listed in relaxation experiences | Included in Scalp Detox & Balance Treatment |
| Finishing blow-dry | Included; styling excluded | Included; styling excluded |
| Choose it when | You want to switch off | Something about your scalp bothers you |
Scalp Treatments
What does a scalp treatment consist of?
A focused cleanse and care routine for one concern, over 80 to 100 minutes, with the products and the pace chosen for that concern. A head spa is a fixed sequence of relaxing steps by comparison, and the what is a head spa guide walks through the 5 steps of the Signature Head Spa.
GK Hair Haven's menu has 4 scalp treatments, each named for its focus and each 80 to 100 minutes long. Their prices sit within $50 of each other, so the choice comes down to the concern rather than the budget.
| Treatment | Focus | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Scalp Detox & Balance Treatment | Oily or flaky scalps and product buildup | $159 |
| Hair Growth & Scalp Renewal Treatment | Thinning-looking hair, as cosmetic care | $169 |
| Intensive Hair Repair Treatment | Dry, damaged-feeling hair | $179 |
| Chinese Herbal Scalp Ritual | Herbal infusion, botanical mask and steam | $209 |
Choosing
Which should I book for stress, and which for an oily or flaky scalp?
For relaxation, choose Classic, Signature or Luxury Sleep Head Spa. The Luxury Sleep Head Spa is the slowest option, with warm eye and towel rituals and extended waterfall therapy. For oily roots, flakes or buildup, Scalp Detox & Balance Treatment includes microscopic scalp analysis and targeted cleansing.
NCCIH calls the body's relaxation response a built-in “stress reset button,” and adds that when stress will not go away, it may be time to talk to a professional. A head spa is a way to switch off, never a substitute for that conversation.
What about tension headaches?
People with tension headaches often massage their scalp, temples or the bottom of the neck, according to MedlinePlus, but NCCIH finds the evidence on massage for headaches too limited or inconsistent to allow conclusions. GK Hair Haven's head spas are for relaxation, and frequent or severe headaches belong with a doctor.
Which one suits a first visit?
Choose Classic Head Spa for a simple relaxing head spa, Signature Head Spa for extended scalp and neck care, or Luxury Sleep Head Spa for quiet, slow-paced rest. If buildup is your main concern, book Scalp Detox & Balance Treatment instead.
What if I want both?
Scalp & Hair Therapy also allows time to settle into the care. For a scalp concern, book the experience closest to it and discuss your comfort preferences with the team. The relaxation head spas have their own distinct focus and are not substitutes for targeted scalp care.
What if my scalp feels dry or easily irritated?
Discuss sensitivities and ingredients with GK Hair Haven before booking. Chinese Herbal Scalp Ritual uses an in-house botanical infusion, a scalp mask and essential oils, so it is important to mention allergies. A painful, broken or inflamed scalp needs medical advice first.
They tailor based on how your scalp is. The scalp massage was lovely, in the way they use their tools and hands is great!
How Often
How often should you get a head spa?
As often as you want the time and it suits your budget; relaxation has no medical schedule. Some guests make it a habit: one Google reviewer planned to “make this a monthly routine for sure,” and another expected to be back “in a few months.” Others save it for a birthday or a hard week.
Does my scalp type change how often I should come?
It changes how soon the clean feeling fades. An oily scalp tends to feel heavy again sooner than a dry one, so oily roots usually set a shorter rhythm; a dry or sensitive scalp may need a different routine. Discuss sensitivities and the ingredients in a planned ritual before booking.
How far ahead can I book the next one?
Up to 30 days. Zyloe opens appointments a month ahead and closes each time 2 hours before it starts, so a monthly rhythm means booking the next visit soon after the last. You can reschedule online with 24 hours' notice.
Repeat Treatments
How often should a scalp treatment be repeated?
When the concern comes back. Oil and flakes return on their own schedule, so the timing depends on your scalp and on how well your routine at home keeps up between visits.
Home care does the daily work. The AAD notes that people with straight hair and an oily scalp may want to shampoo every day, and advises seeing a board-certified dermatologist when dandruff does not go away with home care or becomes severe.
The right rhythm is personal. Your specialist can tell you at your visit whether your scalp needs another treatment soon or simply a steady routine at home.
| Scalp concern | Treatment | What sets the timing | At home between visits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oily roots and buildup | Scalp Detox & Balance Treatment | How soon your roots feel heavy again | Wash as often as your scalp needs |
| Visible flakes | Scalp Detox & Balance Treatment | How soon flakes return | A dandruff shampoo; a dermatologist if flakes persist |
| Dry, damaged-feeling hair | Intensive Hair Repair Treatment | How much heat styling and color your hair sees | Conditioner after every wash, lower heat |
| Thinning-looking hair | Hair Growth & Scalp Renewal Treatment | Your preference; it is cosmetic care | A dermatologist to find the cause |
Your Hair
Is a head spa good for your hair?
It is good for how your hair looks and feels. A thorough cleanse lifts oil and product buildup from the scalp, conditioning care leaves the lengths soft, and a finishing blow-dry finishes them smooth.
No study shows that a head spa makes hair grow. The study most often quoted on scalp massage and hair, a 2016 study in Eplasty, gave nine men 4 minutes of device scalp massage a day for 24 weeks and measured slightly thicker strands than at the start, but no significant difference from the unmassaged side of the head. Its authors call the effect of scalp massage on hair growth unclear, and a hair-care company part-funded the work.
What if my hair is thinning?
See a board-certified dermatologist first, because the cause decides what helps. The page on scalp care for thinning hair explains where the Hair Growth & Scalp Renewal Treatment fits alongside that care. Your specialist can keep your scalp clean and comfortable while your dermatologist looks after the cause.
Head Spa vs Massage
Head spa vs massage: what does each focus on?
A head spa focuses on the scalp, hair and head; a body massage focuses on the muscles of the body. At a head spa you lie back, clothed, while your hair is cleansed and your scalp massaged. A body massage usually happens on a table and has nothing to do with your hair.
GK Hair Haven offers head spas, scalp treatments and facials, and no body massage. The massage in a head spa is a head and scalp massage, and the other hands-on step on the menu is neck relaxation.
Is a head spa the same as a scalp massage?
No. Scalp techniques are one part of a head spa. GK Hair Haven's relaxation experiences also include cleansing, waterfall therapy, conditioning and scalp care. Signature adds a longer face-down scalp ritual; Luxury Sleep adds slower techniques, warm rituals and more time at the basin.
One Visit
Can I combine both in one visit?
Head Spa and Scalp & Hair Therapy are separate categories with different experiences. Choose relaxation for a quiet cleanse and scalp ritual, or choose therapy for a specific scalp or hair concern. Call if you would like help deciding.
Can I book them back to back?
Call (954) 773-5420 to ask whether two appointments can run back to back on the day you want. Otherwise, start with a head spa and book a targeted treatment on a later visit, after discussing which care best fits your needs.
Can I add a facial instead?
Yes. The signature packages start at $229: Signature Head-to-Glow pairs Signature Head Spa with a Hydrating Facial Ritual, and Ultimate Scalp & Skin Ritual pairs Luxury Sleep Head Spa with a Customized Signature Facial Ritual.
