The Definition
What is a head spa?
A head spa is a spa treatment for the scalp. It pairs a thorough cleanse at a shampoo basin with a slow head and scalp massage and conditioning care for the hair, and most head spas finish with a blow-dry. The pace is unhurried, and switching off matters as much as clean hair.
Nobody picks up scissors. GK Hair Haven offers no haircuts, perms or dye at all: the appointment takes place in a private room, and the whole of it goes to your scalp, your hair and a long stretch of quiet.
Japanese head spa or Chinese head spa?
Many people first see a head spa in Japanese head spa videos online: a scalp check, a long cleanse, water at the basin and a slow massage. GK Hair Haven offers Classic, Signature and Luxury Sleep Head Spa experiences. Its separate Chinese Herbal Scalp Ritual draws on traditional scalp meridian release techniques and botanical care.
How is it different from a shampoo at a salon?
In time and attention. A salon shampoo lasts a few minutes on the way to a cut or color; a head spa gives your scalp 60 to 100 minutes of its own, with soothing scalp techniques, cleansing, conditioning and time to rest.
Who enjoys a head spa most?
People who love the hair-wash part of a salon visit and want a long version of it, people with oily roots or product buildup who want a thorough clean, and anyone who wants an hour or two away from a screen.
Step by Step
What happens step by step during a head spa?
At GK Hair Haven, the Signature Head Spa runs through 5 steps in 80 minutes, and it is the head spa GK Hair Haven recommends for a first visit.
The Signature experience begins face-down with an extended scalp ritual using specialized head spa tools. Head and neck techniques lead into a complete head spa with aromatherapy, exfoliation, cleansing, waterfall therapy, conditioning and scalp care. For a close-up scalp check and targeted cleansing, see Scalp & Hair Therapy.
The Signature Head Spa, in order
- Begins face-down
- Extended scalp ritual using specialized head spa tools
- Head and neck techniques
- Complete head spa with aromatherapy, exfoliation, cleansing, waterfall therapy, conditioning and scalp care
- Finishing blow-dry. Your hair is dried to finish the visit. Styling services are not included.
It's my first time in a head spa and I would recommend it a 100%. Gigi is super professional and made me feel very comfortable. She explained to me each step of the process and styled my hair at the end.
Your Hair
Do they wash and blow-dry your hair?
Yes. Every Head Spa and Scalp & Hair Therapy experience at GK Hair Haven includes a complimentary finishing blow-dry. Hair is cleansed and cared for during the appointment, then dried to finish. Styling services are not included.
The wash centers on the scalp. The American Academy of Dermatology advises applying shampoo to the scalp instead of the whole length of the hair, so built-up product, dead skin and excess oil wash away without drying the ends, and a head spa follows the same idea at a slower pace.
What does the water therapy feel like?
A gentle waterfall of water at the basin while you rest. Waterfall therapy is part of the Classic and Signature experiences, and Luxury Sleep gives it more time. For a ritual with botanicals and steam, see Chinese Herbal Scalp Ritual in Scalp & Hair Therapy.
Can I ask for a gentler blow-dry?
Yes. The same AAD guidance suggests limiting blow-drying and using low or medium heat settings, so ask for a cooler finish if your hair is fine or color-treated.

Before You Go
What should I wear, and can I wear makeup?
Wear comfortable clothes with an easy neckline, because you will lie back with a towel at your neck. If your chosen experience includes a warm eye ritual, light eye makeup may be more comfortable. Tell your specialist about any products or sensitivities you want to discuss.
Should I wash or style my hair first?
No. Come with your hair as it is, dry shampoo and styling product included, because lifting buildup away is part of the cleanse. Take out clips and hair ties before you lie back.
What should I tell my specialist?
Any allergy, fragrance sensitivity or scalp condition, before the head spa begins, and arrive a few minutes early to say so: a late start may shorten your service. Some experiences use aromatherapy or botanical ingredients; NCCIH notes that essential oils can cause allergic reactions and skin irritation when they stay on the skin for long periods.
When should I check with a dermatologist first?
If your scalp is red, broken, bleeding or painful, or you are losing hair suddenly or in patches, see a board-certified dermatologist before booking any head spa. The head spa FAQ lists the other signs to look out for.
Timing
How long does a head spa take?
Between 60 and 100 minutes at GK Hair Haven. Classic offers simple relaxation, Signature adds an extended face-down scalp ritual and head and neck care, and Luxury Sleep slows the pace with warm eye and towel rituals, extended waterfall therapy and hand and arm care.
Plan for the booked time plus a few minutes to arrive and settle. A head spa paired with a facial ritual runs 120 to 150 minutes as one of the two signature packages.
| Head spa | Time | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Classic Head Spa | 60 min | $119 |
| Signature Head Spa | 80 min | $149 |
| Luxury Sleep Head Spa | 100 min | $189 |
Prices
How much does a head spa cost in Boca Raton?
At GK Hair Haven, head spas cost $119 to $189. The Classic Head Spa starts the menu at $119 for 60 minutes, and the Luxury Sleep Head Spa tops it at $189 for 100. Each head spa has one length and one price, with optional enhancements listed separately on the menu. Prices are in US dollars.
Can I give a head spa as a gift?
Yes. GK Hair Haven gift cards are bought online through Zyloe, the same system used for booking.
What else is on the menu?
Targeted scalp treatments cost $159 to $209 for 80 to 100 minutes, and the head spa and facial packages $229 to $299. The full menu lists standalone facials and enhancements too.
The Case For It
Is a head spa worth it?
Yes, if you enjoy cleansing, soft-feeling hair and 60 to 100 minutes of quiet in a private room. At GK Hair Haven every head spa includes a complimentary finishing blow-dry. Choose by the pace and amount of scalp and neck care you prefer.
What will I notice afterwards?
The results are cosmetic and immediate: a scalp that feels clean and light, hair that feels soft, and a smooth blow-dry. Oil and buildup return with time, so the clean feeling fades as your usual routine takes over.
What does the research say about relaxation?
NCCIH describes the relaxation response as slower breathing, lower blood pressure and a reduced heart rate, and lists massage among the practices that can bring it on. For scalp massage in particular, a 2016 study gave 34 female office workers 15- or 25-minute scalp massages twice a week for 10 weeks and found differences in stress hormones and blood pressure between groups, though not in heart rate. The study was small and did not look at a head spa, so it is an encouraging sign rather than proof.
Is a head spa a medical treatment?
No. A head spa does not treat headaches, insomnia, anxiety, dandruff or hair loss; for any of those, a doctor or a board-certified dermatologist is the right first visit.
